Pune International Film Festival was a refreshing experience. The national film institute is situated in Pune, the city is the alma mater to many great actors in the Indian film industry. The movies are great every year : a variety of Spanish, German, French, Arabic, Israeli and others.
I went to the cinema hall alone and really enjoyed it. I sat on the stairs in the hall since the room was packed full. There was one film from Azerbaijan and that made me realize the diversity of the world that we live. Large groups of people I have very little knowledge about, either because of a lack of it or because of my ignorance. Here I was busy being proud of myself for going to the movies alone, and there on the screen was a single mother aged thirteen. I cannot pretend that I think that clearly every day, and that I am always so attentive to details of everything that happens around me and in the world that we live in. However, that day it was made clear to me how much there is that I should be grateful for. I am grateful to have access to the cinema hall, to live in a country where I can wear anything I wish to that cinema hall, that I could earn the money for the ticket, that I could understand the movie by reading the subtitles, that we exist at a time when globalization allows us to experience diverse cultures. I was simply grateful.
